Tetrimäki

The Tetrimäki carpentry factory was a Christian community that helped German, Karelian and Russian children after World War II. German Lutz Reinhardt (1952-2009) visited Tetrimäki with his father when he was 14. He returned to Finland in the 1970s and became interested in woodworking in Tetrimäki. Reinhardt qualified as a master carpenter, established a carpentry factory and signed a contract to exclusively manufacture furniture designed by Eliel Saarinen. The philosophy of the Tetrimäki carpentry factory is based on craftsmanship. Beauty and quality were the two elements of the craftsmanship that Lutz Reinhardt fostered. He called his company the ‘Factory of Beauty’. Today, Tetrimäki furniture manufacturing continues under the ownership of Suomen Maatilapalvelut Oy. The production facilities are located in Vehmersalmi, Kuopio. The company continues the Finnish carpentry tradition and educates master carpenters in cooperation with the Savo Vocational College. Manufacturing is characterised by a high proportion of handicraft. The company has its own sawmill and drying kiln, ensuring the availability of high-quality wood material.
